Bucha

Invading Kyiv was one of the occupiers’ aims. The road to it leads through the smaller towns and villages. Bucha is a town located northwest of Kyiv. It is 25 kilometres away from the capital of the country.
It is surrounded with forests, historically summer houses were built there. The town experienced active growth in the recent years due to its privileged position nearby Kyiv: people would move there to enjoy more peaceful life and the beautiful nature. Around 37 thousand people lived in Bucha as of 2020.
According to preliminary data, over 400 people lost their lives in Bucha, but this number is not final. According to Anatolii Fedoruk, Mayor of the town, one out of five people that remained in Bucha after occupation was killed.
The town was awarded the status of a hero town of Ukraine.
