Home Lost

With every passing day, stories of the battles for Hostomel, evacuation from Irpin under artillery fire or massacre in Bucha seem more like a nightmare you want to wake up from and forget. Yet, it is the reality we live in and should remember.

Russia’s war against Ukraine started as early as 2014 with the occupation of the Crimea and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. On February 24, 2022, the Russian troops started a full-scale offensive. As of now it is impossible to give the exact number of casualties among the civilian population.

Over 10 million Ukrainians had to leave their homes. Now not all of them even have homes to return to.

This project shows what Ukrainian cities and towns look like after being attacked by Russia: after being freed from occupation, the aftermath of artillery fire and air strikes. How the cosy quaint streets are filled with demolished buildings, burned machines and burials of those killed.

Western countries can help to put an end to mass destruction of the peaceful Ukrainian towns. Immediate supply of the heavy weapons upon the request of Ukrainian government and full embargo on the Russian energy imports is a reasonable price to pay for the millions of Ukrainian lives saved. Every hryvnia, dollar or euro invested into the aid for the Ukrainian army helps us protect our home. And our home is the entire country.
