Irpin
Bridge, Kyivs'ka oblast
To prevent the advance of Russian troops to Kyiv, on February 25, the Ukrainian military blew up a bridge over the Irpin River. Until March 5, residents of the region could evacuate by rail, but then the Russians blew up the railway tracks. Therefore, the only route for escape was the destroyed bridge.
According to the city mayor of Irpin, the bridge has become a symbol of protection for local residents. Almost 40,000 residents of the Irpin area passed through this "road of life" to save themselves from the Russian invaders.
To replace the destroyed bridge on April 10, a temporary bulk bridge, which connected Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel, Vorzel with Kyiv, was constructed. It was built in five days.
In order to preserve the history of the destroyed bridge and honor the memory of the residents of Kyiv region who suffered from the Russian occupation, a modern memorial complex will be built here. Visitors to this object will be able to plunge into the atmosphere that prevailed during the evacuation.
