National Scientific Center “Institute of Metrology”
As a result of Russian shelling on May 1, the old building of the scientific and educational center of the Institute of Metrology, built in 1927, was damaged.
The initiator of the foundation of the Institute of Metrology was an outstanding scientist Dmytro Mendeleev. With his assistance, in 1901, the first in Ukraine verification chamber of trade of weights and measures appeared in Kharkiv. And in 1922 it became the central metrological institution of Ukraine — the Main Chamber of Weights and Measures. At the same time, the current building of the Institute of Metrology appeared, where for decades have been developed methods of physical measurements, created technologies and samples of measuring instruments.
The Kharkiv Institute of Metrology created the first quartz clock resonators in the Soviet Union, the first pendulum clock for astronomical observatories and the first exemplary nuclear magnetic field strength meter. Ultra-precise fundamental constants such as the speed of light and a laser light distance to clarify large and ultra-large lengths, which were determined by the scientists of the institute have also received worldwide recognition.
