Kharkiv
Court of Appeal
The building, which currently houses the Kharkiv Court of Appeal, has an interesting history and the status of a monument of architecture and urban planning of local importance.
The building of judicial institutions was built in 1899–1902 according to the project of academician of architecture Oleksiy Beketov with the participation of architects Yuliy Tsaune and Volodymyr Khrustalov. At that time, it was the largest building in Kharkiv. On February 3, 1918, the first Kharkiv revolutionary tribunal started working there. In the 1920s, the headquarters of the Ukrainian Military District was located here, and in the 1930s, the building became the headquarters of the Kharkiv Military District. And in 1941, the headquarters of the 18th Army was formed.
During the Second World War, the building suffered significant damage, and the right wing of the main facade was completely destroyed. However, it was restored in 1946–1954.
In the post-Soviet period, the House of Judicial Institutions began to be used for its original purpose — it housed the Court of Appeal of the Kharkiv Region, which was later renamed the Kharkiv Court of Appeal.
In the evening of March 6, two powerful explosions occurred near the building. Due to this, it was significantly damaged. The blast wave blew out windows, significantly damaged the interior, and burned the roof.
