Kherson International Airport. Russian dugouts

From the first day of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Kherson airport in the village of Chornobaivka became the epicenter of the battle for southern Ukraine. On the morning of February 24, Russian troops launched a rocket-bomb attack on the airport. On February 27, the Russians seized the airfield and controlled its territory until the beginning of November. On the territory of Kherson International Airport, the Russian military has set up about half a hundred dugouts. The Russians planned to stay in Chornobayivka for a long time, and some of the shelters were seriously equipped. All of them had concrete floors, doors, the inside was lined with wood, insulated with linoleum, and the furniture consisted of bunk beds and tables. The Russians also brought electricity and lighting there. Air conditioners were found in some dugouts. Along with shelters, bunkers were built to store military equipment. By the end of the summer of 2022, the Ukrainian military had carried out at least 30 attacks on Russian equipment and personnel stationed at the airport. In early November, due to constant pressure from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians were forced to leave the airport and the entire right bank of the Dnieper.
