Makariv

Even the smaller villages were targeted by the occupiers that wanted to capture Kyiv in the first days of the invasion. Makariv is located 70 kilometres west of Kyiv. The village was founded in the 16th century. Now its economy is based primarily on agriculture.

As of 2022, about 15 thousand people lived there. Now 40% of the village is destroyed.

On the territory of Makariv the rubble clearance is ongoing, the exact number of the killed is unknown. According to the head of the village council, 132 people were shot by the occupiers.
