Antonov Hostomel Airport (GML), Kyivs'ka oblast
The Antonov An-225 Mriya (In Ukrainian means "Dream"), the biggest and the most powerful airplane in the world, was built in 1988 - it took a record-breaking short period of 3,5 years to develop it. On the 21st December 1988 the airplane flew for the first time and since then set over 240 world and national records that have been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
On 27 February 2022, as a result of an air attack by Russian troops at the Gostomel airfield, the legendary plane was destroyed.
Before the Russian invasion, the Mriya often flew important humanitarian flights: delivering medicines and protective equipment needed to fight the coronavirus throughout the world, delivering Christmas gifts to people with AIDS in Africa, transporting humanitarian aid to victims of the earthquake in Japan.
According to preliminary estimates, the restoration of "Mriya" will cost about $3 billion and will take about 5 years.
