On March 29, the Russian military shelled the Mykolaiv regional state administration building. A Russian rocket penetrated the building, destroying all floors of the central section. It happened around 9 in the morning, when the residents of the city were going to work.

Rescuers spent a week sorting through the debris and searching for the bodies of the dead. 37 people became victims of the shelling: 17 employees of the regional state administration, 11 representatives of the territorial defense, 6 military personnel, 2 employees of the Commercial Court, and the director of the utility company "Commercial technical maintenance".

The head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitaliy Kim was not injured: according to him, he overslept that morning, which saved his life.
