Mykolaiv was one of the first targets of the Russian military, which has been bombing the city in southern Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. At first, they shelled airports, later residential buildings, and social infrastructure. Until the beginning of November 2022, the city suffered almost daily from Russian shelling, because the front line was located nearby. 149 civilians, including two children, died in the city from Russian rockets. 698 people were injured, ten of them children. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, more than half of the population of Mykolayiv left the city, 220-230 thousand of the 486 thousand residents remained here. As a result of Russian shelling, 874 apartment buildings and 1,070 private houses were damaged. 30 apartment buildings and 70 private buildings were completely destroyed and cannot be restored. Dozens of schools, kindergartens and hospitals, cultural centers, office centers, university premises, and industrial facilities were also damaged.
